Welcome to Kindergarten. This is a very special time in your child's life. Thiis is the time when your child establishes the foundation for future school success, and I look forward to being there for him/her every step of the way.


BEFORE ENTERING KINDERGARTEN

Students are required to know the following before entering Kindergarten:

  • Say and recognize ABC’s
  • Recognize shapes and colors
  • Manipulate beginning sounds of the alphabet
  • Print their name, capital and lowercase letters of the alphabet
  • Count from 1 to 20
  • Distinguish the difference between left and right

CURRICULUM OVERVIEW

Our program involves non-denominational Biblical teaching and prayer. Discipleland is used for out Bible curriculum. Saxon is used for Languange Arts. Houghton Mifflin for Math and A Belka Book for Science and Social Studies.

Language Arts: Phonics and Reading

  • Recognition of name, letter names and sounds, and long and short vowels and consonants.
  • Beginning phonics rules and special sounds
  • Reading of sentences and stories from twelve books containing one and two vowel words and special sounds
  • Compound words, syllables, and Rhymes

Language Arts: Writing

  • Letters, blends, words, and sentences

Language Arts: Language

  • Recognition of sentences by capital letters, periods, and commas

Language Arts: Poetry

  • Poems committed to memory

Social Studies

  • Community helpers
  • Children of the world
  • America: Our great country (map studies, famous Americans and places)

Arithmetic

  • Number recognition, counting, and writing 1-100
  • Number concepts 1-100
  • Numbers before and after 1-100
  • Numbers largest and smallest 1-100
  • Counting and writing by tens to 100
  • Counting and writing by fives to 100
  • Counting and writing by twos to 100
  • Number sequences by ones
  • Using number words 1-10 and fist – tenth
  • Value of coins and dollar bill
  • Telling time

CONTACT MRS. HERNANDEZ

Mrs. Edme Hernandez has been taching at SCS for over 10 years. She specializes in ealry childhood education. She was born in LaPaz Bolivia and is a fluent spanish speaker. She is our children's worship leasder and our summer program director. She has been at Sunnyvale Christian School since 1995.
